Harvey Awards
Posted on July 15th 2011

The Reading With Pictures anthology for which I contributed the two page strip Overdue (written by Dino Caruso) has been nominated for two Harvey Awards.
One for best anthology and another for Best Original Graphic Publication for Younger Readers.
The anthology was created to be both a fundraiser and profile enhancer for Reading With Pictures, a nonprofit organisation that advocates the use of comics in the classroom to promote literacy and improve educational outcomes.
The awards are nominated and votedĀ for by anyone who works within the comic book industry, including webcomic creators and editors.

Miss America
Posted on July 3rd 2011

Superhero comics have been around for over seventy years, and while many characters are now owned by huge media empires, many others fell by the wayside and are now in the public domain.
This allows anyone to use those characters and their original stories in any way they wish. There is even an online encyclopedia of these characters, providing information to fans who want to learn about their history, as well as creators who may want to use them.
Whilst looking through the site I came across Miss America and decided to attempt to re-design her as a Diesel Punk heroine, and as it's the fourth of July weekend it seemed appropriate to post it today.

Designing the K-Zine Logo
Posted on June 27th 2011

When I was working on the cover for K Zine issue one, Graeme Hurry (the editor / publisher) asked me to re-design the magazine logo. The colours of the original logo were black, white and red so I had to keep that in mind.
My design went through a couple of revisions before Graeme was satisfied with the end result, and then a black and white version was created for any time the full colour logo could not be used.
The fonts that I used came from Font Squirrel, a source of free commercial use fonts.
