Monster Hunting for Penguin

Back when John Gatehouse and I were working on Lazarus Lemming For the DFC, we came up with an idea for kid’s book which we called the Monster Hunters Handbook.

We put together a proposal in which John described the book this way -

The Monster-Hunter’s Handbook is the fun way to help brave-hearted readers to become celebrity “monster-hunters”! We introduce them to the terrifying, bloodcurdling supernatural world that exists outside their own front door. (Monster-hunting is a lot more fun than flipping burgers for a living - although we wouldn’t suggest taking out any long-term pension plans!)

It’s taken a while, and there have been a few bumps along the way, but thanks to the hard work of agents Watson Little, John and I are now working on a series of four books for Penguin(USA).

Our editor at Penguin is Rob Valios ( one of the people behind Reading with Pictures) and the first book is due out before Halloween 2013.

Instacanv.as

I have been taking photographs with my ipod touch, and posting them online at Instagram for a few months now. Recently I came across Instacanv.as and decided to open gallery on their site.

Instacanv.as is a new service that allows people with Instagram accounts turn their Instagram photos. in to canvas prints, and then post them for sale from their gallery.

I wanted to try my hand at designing a Steampunk character and this is the result of my doodling.

Lists of Victorian first names and common English surnames, which were found on the internet, were the sources I used on when choosing the character's name.

Graeme Hurry the editor and publisher of Kindle magazine, K-Zine, always tries to be one step ahead. When an issue goes on sale he likes to have the cover for the next issue ready to be displayed on the K-Zine website.

The third issue of the speculative fiction magazine will be available at the Amazon Kindle store on the 26th of this month, so he commissioned me to create the next cover.

This design was, put together using a number of royalty free images from a variety of sites. Once the images had been selected they were combined and manipulated in Photoshop using a variety of tools, and filters .

More information about the magazine can be found on the K-zine website.
